Throughout his tenure Dennis has demonstrated his commitment to the Program’s success, working tirelessly to assist the Program to achieve its mission. This year, Dennis was integral in ensuring legislation was passed that significantly impacts the lives of many of Florida’s dependent children – The Child’s Best Hope Act. Dennis drafted legislation, met with legislators, staff, and stakeholders. He listened to their ideas and positions, he addressed their concerns and drafted a bill that would ultimately fix a flaw in the law that allowed for a possibly tragic outcome in a child’s life. Because Dennis was so focused on getting this important piece of legislation through, he was able to bring stakeholders who could not agree back to the table to find common ground. Dennis worked nights, weekends and even through illness to ensure the success of the Child’s Best Hope Act and avoid the often terrible outcomes seen in some adoption intervention cases.
